I Love Touring Italy - Beautiful Lake Garda
If you are looking for a European tourist destination, consider Lake Garda situated primarily in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Depending on your interests, this magnificent region could be an ideal holiday. You can get the classic Italian food, and wash it with fine local wines. It is barely concealed, but that should not stop you from passing. With a little effort, you should be able to find places relatively untouched. Be sure to read the companion of this series of articles presenting Milan, Lombardy small town outside the capital Milan, Lake Como and district. While people often think of Lake Garda as part of Lombardy which is not entirely true. This beautiful lake is spreading in the neighbouring regions of Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto as indicated below.Lake Garda is an alpine lake, formed by glaciers at the end of the last ice age about ten thousand years. It is Italy's largest lake about 30 miles (52 kilometers) long and up to 10 miles (17 kilometers) wide. Near the lake, the ground tends to be mountainous in the north and flat in the south. The lake is relatively clean, but that tourism continues to grow ... We begin our tour of Lake Garda, at the northern tip, Riva del Garda, located just inside the region of Trentino-Alto Adige. We will travel counterclockwise around the lake, crossing the border into Lombardy and the first stop in Gargnano, then in Gardone Riviera with its neighbour historic Salo, and finally to Sirmione near the south end of the lake. We then enter the Veneto region with a stop in Bardolino, Punta di San Virgilio, and finally come to Macesine, not far from our departure point.Riva del Garda is probably the most famous resort on Lake Garda. It is also one of the cheapest areas around the lake. You can find a castle with a moat. The Civic Museum (Museo Civico) is part of the Rocca, a medieval fortress by the lake. Do not worry if you can not sailing or windsurfing, local schools will be happy to teach you. The thirteenth century Torre Apponale (Apponale Tower) has defended the city against invaders and held prisoners. Look for Riva del Garda symbol, Anzolin. It is the little angel on top of the tower that welcomes all those who come in the city where it rotates in the wind.Gargnano with a population of around three thousand is a great place for fishing, snorkeling and sailing . In fact, it is one of the best places to drill on the western shore of Lake Garda. The city is the main attraction Chiesa di San Francesco (Cloister of Saint Francis) and its campanile (bell tower). The Roman church cemetery contains the graves. As you walk around the city, you can see houses which still show traces of shots fired during the Third War of Independence, Italian 1866.In 1943 Mussolini founded his short-lived Repubblica Sociale Italia ( Italian Social Republic) here. He installed himself in a late nineteenth century, art nouveau villa called Villa Feltrinelli about two miles (three kilometers) north of the city. You can get your revenge by staying at Villa Feltrinelli, which is now an upscale hotel, but it costs you a lot. I am told that you will not be disappointed by its beauty and luxury, including magnificent gardens and a fine library. Thus, we see that, even at the end of his days, Benito was able to live well. Shortly after ... Gardone Riviera, population twenty-five hundred, is best known for the castle Vittoriale degli Italiani (Sanctuary Italian victories) and the main Italian writer Gabriele d'Annunzio who lived from 1922 until his death in 1938. This building has been called a fascist Luna Park so you probably can guess from Annunzio's policy. It was both his mentor and Mussolini main competitor. Présumément Mussolini said: "When you are saddled with a rotten tooth, you have two options open to you: either you pull the tooth or you fill it with gold. With Annunzio I have chosen for the second treatment. "Can you guess who also lived in Vittoriale degli Italiani? Mussolini's mistress, Clara Petacci, conveniently resided here to be close to his heart throb Benito when it was not exactly outline near the Villa Feltrinelli Gargnano as described above.Be sure to visit the two acres (one hectare) Jardin Botanico (Botanical Garden) Andre Heller formerly known as the Jardin Botanico (Botanical Garden) Hruska. You will see thousands of exotic species, Alpine, Mediterranean and subtropical plants. Not bad for such a small site small town of Salo, ten thousand people, a once great ambitions. It was the capital of Mussolini's Nazi-backed puppet state, the Italian Social Republic, also known as the Republic of Salo. Its main attractions include fifteenth century Duomo (cathedral), the sixteenth century Palazzo della Magnifica Patria (Palais de la Patrie Magnificent) with a historical museum, covering, among other subjects, the Resistance against fascism, and a Palace will host an archaeological museum . Every Saturday morning, there is a large open-air market where you can forget politics.Sirmione, about seven thousand inhabitants, is our last stop in Lombardy. This area has been finally settled by people from more than two thousand years, many people would have lived in houses on stilts. Its main attraction is the Grotte di Catullo (Cave of Catullus) a large rectangular structure which would have been the site of the fun-loving Roman poet Catullus. The truth is that the villa was most likely nearby. In any case, you should visit the ruins and museum.Bardolino, population a little better than six miles, is located on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. It is the largest station on the lake, with numerous shops and historical relics. Bardolino the key demand of fame is its wine, discussed at the end of this article. In the fall, he organized an annual Cura dell'Uva (Grape Cure) Festival. Some of the participants have crushed grapes on their skin, others drink grape juice, and still others drink the local wine. I think they all have fun, even if they are not cured.Stop admire the Punta San Virgilio (Saint Promonotory Virgil), said to be the most romantic spot on the lakeshore. Nearby is the fifteenth century Villa di Guarienti Bronzane but you can see it from the outside. The Parco di Baia Sirene (Mermaid's Bay Park), for children and adults is open to the public public.Malcesine whose numbers thirty-five hundred also claims to be the most popular on the lake. It is near the mountain and offers several lifts. A cable car takes you to the summit of Monte Baldo. If you are ambitious, head back down trekking. Be sure to see Castello Scaligero (Scaligero Castle). What about food? Of course, next to the lake fish is an important part of the local cuisine. Fish species include the rare Lake Garda carp, whitefish, eel, pike, tench, perch. Citrus fruit, cheese and wine also form a major part of the diet. Lake Garda's olive trees are quite special. To preserve the land, they are trained to grow high, so high that scali, invented a long pole for lemons are needed to harvest olives. Their olive oil is exceptional, even in Italian standards.Let 's suggest a sample menu, among many others. Start with the Bigoi con Agule (Spaghetti with sardines). Luccio Then try Salsa (with sauce Pike, eats cold). For dessert treat yourself with Torte di Mele (Apple Cake.) Be sure to increase your pleasure to eat including local wines with your meal.We conclude with a brief overview of Lombardy wine. E 38% of white wine, but there is little ros? There are 15 DOC wines. DOC means Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which can be translated as Designation of Origin, probably a high quality wine. There are three DOCG: sparkling Franciacorta said to compete with the price french Champagne and as a result, the red Sforzato di Valtellina, and red Superiore.Remember Valtellina, Lake Garda belongs to three Italian regions: Lombardy, Trentino-Alto - Adige and Veneto. The best-known local wine comes from the east of the lake near Bardolino, a part of the Veneto region. Bardolino DOC is produced in a variety of styles from a variety of local grapes. Bardolino Superiore DOCG is a dry red wine made from local grapes, following more stringent specifications.
