A Foodie In St Barth - Eden Rock
Eating out is never exactly a chore in metropolitan France, and for the visitor is just as much a pleasure cooking french on the Caribbean island of Saint Barth. There are more than 50 restaurants mentioned in the excellent guide St. Barth tables. It is available free at the airport and a list of all the menus and prices. In addition, there are many small bars and restaurants you may encounter in your travels around the island.Don 't expect too many "local" dishes that except fish, almost everything else has be imported and fashion seems to be a lot of "fusion food" for the restoration of the most sophisticated and moneyed tastes - which of course are not necessarily the same thingOn whole, prices are not too afraid and if you want to be sure of a table, book in advance - especially during peak season. Here of a choice (not always a recommendation) of a few places that I tried on my last trip to St Barth.Eden Rock, near St JeanEating back to back at restaurants was still underway more than a little extravagant, but it is St Barth after all, known for its quality and breadth of its kitchen and a public holiday is the best time for self-indulgence out.So coup following a fascinating evening, our taste buds in The Gaïac, we decided to bust the budget once again, this time at Eden Rock in St. Jean . This was a return to some sort of commitment that we had eaten the same restaurant the previous year and greatly appreciated. But the substance of my mind was the nagging memory that Eden Rock tried just a little too difficult to be connected without necessarily having the true style setting match. The is breathtaking, it must be admitted - overlooking the Bay of St John and beautifully lit offers a view of the sea and fish below. Without doubt it is a magnet for honeymooning couples and there is probably a certain romanticism to eat. But even though it is undeniably impressive, you know the substance, it has something to Las Vegas on it.It 's a little too easy to leave with the feeling that you have not really been offered the real thing - even if the remake is superb. Take for example the staff. Needless to say they were all smiles winningly white and never wore the black you (still) expect to find in a place that considers itself most obviously the edge fashion. But servers were T-shirts a size too small to show their PECs and waitresses opted for more traditional, the ubiquitous small number. They were efficient and polite, but still seemed to be strutting and just a little too hip and sullenly distant to be waiting to tables. And who feels that this type of fallout from the menu well.To begin, what was the offer was certainly not what I read in my hungrily "bible" of the island Restaurant St. Barth tables. It is rather a shortcut late season version presented in a super (here that the new word) mode of metal packaging. Why? Search me.And here is a reflection of the type of place you're dealing. Eden Rock is not only a restaurant, a place to go enjoy a meal. It is also a hotel and a short time of ownership, as a full page of the menu remind you that the lists include the offer of an apartment rooms only 400000. A snip.On to food, which is after all the real reason we went, it turned out a little disappointment. He gourmet-style price, that's for sure, but apparently the leader can not resist the temptation to disturb the traditional dishes that simply do not need improvement, and even the abbreviated menu has been modified to s adapt the day.The maki and sashimi starter for example included sashimi, which was totally on marinated and maki with a layer of cream cheese. Huh? And a main dish that promised in the bar a spicy lemongrass sauce was abandoned in favour of monkfish. The last-minute changes depending on the availability (or not) of fish are not uncommon in any restaurant, but for the price Eden Rock costs of such information should be available for the meal because they are ordering and not five minutes later . Mossi fiddle around with dessert left me feeling a little disoriented. It is certainly a delicious Black Forest cake, but presented in such a way that no longer resembled the original in any way whatsoever. Four corners of the plate at each corner hosting a ingredient. It struck me as a bit like offering a bowl of ice cream with ice on one side and cream on the other. Why the trouble - except to show that you can be different? Apparently because the head suppose. For I do all my critics, the Eden Rock is probably still worth a visit - maybe lunch would be a better perspective. This is not a gourmet restaurant in the same league as Le Gaïac. Prices and putting in May, but the food is just a little too stupid and the service is simply too slick. It of a place to see and maybe seen a good start the company that will clearly attract customer because of its unique location, but not necessarily those for whom food matters. In really short, it is written TRENDINESS great feat with food small.Ratings: Ambiance - 13/20, the service - 13/20, Food -13/20
