Polish Pottery

"I am too young to be collecting the dishes!" Yes, these famous last words came out of my mouth shortly after moving to Germany. I want to see things everywhere - decorate the walls in the home of a friend, brimming with food for a meal for the collection, being sold by a booth outside the post store. And remember that all purchases bazaar - table surrounded by a frenzy of the ladies was sure to have a well-stocked selection of Poland or Italy.I resisted his seductive allure for the first two years, and believe it or not, my husband has yielded first. I was absorbed by a pile of carved wooden boxes that my husband had explored the pottery table nearby. Then he uttered those words nine small it is probably regretted since, "what do you think of buying some Polish Pottery?" It is all the more. We went home with five different pieces of the afternoon but it was only the beginning - countless models, all colors imaginable, and the abundance of shapes and sizes - it turned out that Not only I was too young, I needed it took my shopping Polish Pottery all.I first trip a few months later with the USO - you know, one that you spend an insane 30 hours in a Prior induced pottery, it-doesn't-matter-how-much-I-go euphoria. Each of the charges on a big tour bus at 9 pm on a Friday night and at about 4:30 pm, the shopping madness begins. Shop owners know when the buses arrive and place themselves out of bed early for extra money. Each store is a race - not only against your friends in your bus, but this upcoming tour bus you HAVE to stay in front. Plates, dessert plates, coffee cups and saucers, platters, baking dishes, tea, salt and pepper - you need anything for the kitchen or the dining room. Recently, I saw articles of pottery that you can use outside the kitchen, such as wall decorations, planters, and some of those minerals that I will not mention ... Some people have such a well-loved model, while others, like me, mix and match for an eclectic look (they are also easier to replace if, heaven forbids, something breaks). Stop only for a short lunch of goulash to keep your energy level and keep going. The trip is also a learning experience, not just a chance to lose control. When looking at the pottery, try and buy only category 1. The category indicates the level of defects in the highest way possible. Category 1 pottery kiln is safe for a maximum of 425 degrees F and dishwasher safe (although I did not trust it ... I do not even trust my husband, wash it within reach hand ... if you saw my collection of crystal glasses, you understand). Category 2 is safe for the oven to 325 degrees F and "probably" in the dishwasher. Category 3 and higher should be used only to serve. Also, if you find the label 'unikat' on the merits, the trend is behind the shop you bought it from. The golden rule of the Polish Pottery Shopping in Poland is the following: if you find a play / model you like, buy it! You will probably not be able to find exactly the same room anywhere else, so if you can stand the idea of losing potentially a couple of dollars to get one piece, do it! At about 5 pm, it's time to head back. The bus was packed, luggage space under the bus as comprehensive as they may be, and every bump in the road gives you a hit worried "gasp 'of exhaustion buyers. The USO Stuttgart automatically gives each two seats, and at that point, you say a silent prayer for that perk ingenious. Your return to the post early hours around 3 hours and barely have the energy evokes this little white lie to your spouse that you * really * happened. Your body is screaming with a mixture of exhaustion and cramps of the bus, but it was worth it! Especially when you go back to the states - QVC look and you will see what I mean. The other day, the animals, the ladies were smiling sale of a dessert plate for $ 42! Finally, I will recommend to a group in Poland, compared with only you and the family. Getting around by bus, tight, and you have to concede to groups of schedule, it is preferable that the process of getting a stolen car (what happens a little - and how easy do you think it will be to follow in a former eastern bloc countries?). I have heard so many of these stories car jacking - a woman has her husband to watch along the car ... He did - he looked right behaves out of the parking lot. I had a friend tell me that it will only drive their cars to Poland if her husband goes and he drives the car in circles in the parking lot while she shops. I also saw small groups, be they friends or organized by an ingenious military spouse, hiring a bus driver and charter. Each pitches for a portion of the bill. Not only are they leave the driving to someone else, they buy themselves peace of mind. Better safe than sorry! Ready to go? USO dot com - Those affiliated with the army have this resource.
